A hot cup of tea is how I love to start and end my day. There are so many different teas out there that have different health benefits for our bodies. It can be hard to know what are the healthiest teas to drink and which ones you should add to your diet.
It all comes down to what you are trying to improve because they all have different properties. My favorite thing about all of these teas is that they contain an overload of antioxidants which is amazing for your overall health.
My personal favorite is green tea and I try to have at least two cups a day.
1. Green Tea
We have all heard that green tea is very beneficial for the body and overall health. Why? Because it is LOADED with healthy nutrients and antioxidants. Antioxidants help to prevent free radical damage to your body. Overtime free radicals in the body causes cancer… so let’s just say you want to make sure you get in antioxidants into your body every day. Green tea is one of the top healthiest teas to drink.
It is important to remember that green tea is not going to cure and prevent all types of cancer. My favorite thing about green tea is that it gives me stable energy without the jitters and crash. There is about 30-50 mg of caffeine in a cup of green tea which is about half a cup of coffee.
2. Black Tea
There are many studies that came to the conclusion that black and green tea can decrease our risks of stroke. One study showed that those who consume more than 3 cups of tea per day showed a 21% reduction in having a stroke than those who only had 1 cup or less.
Just like green tea, black tea is loaded with antioxidants, which reduces cell damage and may ultimately decrease the risk of chronic diseases. Black tea contains Polyphenols that kill cavity-causing bacteria and tooth decay.
3. Oolong Tea
Oolong tea is not talked about as much as other teas such as green and black tea but is becoming more popular due to its unique health-promoting abilities.
Oolong tea has been associated with preventing a number of different diseases and reducing inflammation in the body.
Regular consumption of oolong tea can help to promote the overall health of the heart and reduce the chances of heart disease. This is because it contains different heart antioxidant compounds.
It can also help to reduce triglyceride levels in the body as well as reduce high levels of cholesterol.
4. Chamomile Tea
Ah, chamomile is one of my favorites before going to sleep! Unlike green and black tea that comes from a tree, chamomile tea comes from a daisy-like plant. Plants in this family produce tea that is known for relaxing and helping with sleep.
If you have a hard time falling asleep try having a cup of chamomile tea 30 minutes before you go to bed.
Chamomile tea can also help the pain and discomfort of irritable bowel syndrome. It can also help relieve excess gas and bloating.
5. Rooibos Tea
Rooibos tea is often consumed for its ability to help with heart health, which has been backed up by many studies. It has a powerful flavonoid that has been linked to decreasing blood pressure and improving circulation.
This tea contains a very rare antioxidant compound known as aspalathin, which can help to reduce vascular inflammation and protect the heart against oxidation, lowering the risk for heart disease.
