This Easy Penne alla Vodka Recipe is a delicious, comfort meal that you can make in less than 35 minutes. I love using chickpea pasta when making penne alla vodka because it adds in some extra protein.
This recipe uses penne pasta but I only had half a box so I had to substitute but it was still amazing!

Substitutions for Easy Penne Alla Vodka Recipe
As you can see in the pictures I did not have enough penne pasta so I had to use the rest of it and add another chickpea pasta. You could really use any pasta that you have on hand! Another option is whole wheat pasta or red lentil pasta.
If you wanted to add more protein to this dish you could add any meat like sausage, chicken, or even shrimp!
Ingredients for Easy Penne alla Vodka Recipe
- 16 oz chickpea penne pasta (any pasta works)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 white onion (diced)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- salt/pepper to liking
- 28 oz Italian whole tomatoes
- 1 cup vodka
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup pasta water
- 3/4 cup parmesan cheese
- fresh basil (for serving)

How to Make Easy Penne alla Vodka Recipe
- Cook pasta according to instructions. Save 1/2 cup of pasta water.
- Add olive oil to a pan over medium heat, sautee onions for 5 minutes with salt and pepper. Add an extra pinch of red pepper flakes if you like spicy.
- Add garlic, saute for 1 minute.
- Add tomatoes, vodka, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning salt, and pepper, bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add pasta water, heavy cream, and parmesan cheese, simmer for 1 minute.
- Add pasta into the sauce. Garnish with basil and parmesan cheese.
