Trader Joe’s Haul | Under $50

I decided to do a trader joe’s haul because it is my current obsession! I mean seriously you can’t beat the prices. They have a lot of organic products which I love! The first time I went to trader joe’s was a few weeks ago and I fell in love. First the prices of course, but they also have a product selection that you will not find at any other grocery stores. Every time I go here I try to get a few new things to try, which is always fun. Also, can we talk about the employees? AMAZING. Keep reading to see what I got for my trader joe’s haul.

What I got:

Organic Pumpkin Puree- I use this to make a vegan pumpkin spice latte. I also used this to make pumpkin and cookie butter muffins and they were delicious!

Unsalted Peanut Butter- This is my favorite peanut butter because the only ingredients are peanuts.

Cookie Butter- When I first tried this I was not really a fan and was actually kind of let down. However, I made cookies and muffins with it and let me tell you something… they were the best damn cookies I ever had!

Frozen Mango- YUM! I love frozen mango in my smoothies with some berries.

Cucumber- I use this to make fresh juice.

Zucchini- I actually used this yesterday to make zucchini noodles and shrimp. Surprisingly it turned out really good.. not as good as regular pasta but it did the job.

Sardines- I know some of you probably think sardines are gross, but with the right seasoning, they are beyond ;). Plus, they are very healthy with you.

Chicken Chow Mein- This is something that I wanted to try out. I am sure you can make a much healthier version at home, but I wanted something that was going to be quick.

Pizza Crust- Ugh I made this the other day and now I want more. I added tomato, mozzarella, basil, and olive oil and it was soooo good. I loved it because the crust was not too thick or too thin which is always my issue.

Thai Red Curry Sauce- I got this to make a vegetable curry type of thing… yeah I am not too sure yet.

Ezekial Bread- I AM SO DISAPPOINTED BY THIS BREAD. I have watched so many youtube videos of people using this bread and say it is delicious. WRONG, this is the most disgusting bread I ever had and in my opinion is a disgrace to bread. Sorry.

My Favorites

Bread Crumbs- I wanted to get these because well if we’re being real I saw they were organic and couldn’t say no. I made the BEST chicken with these breadcrumbs yesterday, I am going to have to share the recipe soon.

Miyoko’s Vegan Butter- This vegan butter honestly tastes just like regular butter to me. It was the most expensive thing in this haul but definitely worth it to me. Plus, the ingredients are clean.

Peanut Butter Cups- Now for the real reason why I go to trader joe’s… these are the best thing that ever happened to me. I am not even being dramatic (okay maybe a little), but seriously if you get anything from this BUY THESE. They also have dark chocolate but I prefer milk. I love that the peanut butter does not taste processed. Please get these and let me know what you think!

Turmeric-Lemon-Ginger Natural Detox Tea

I have been obsessed with turmeric lately and try to add it to drinks or meals whenever I can! It can be very strong in the beginning so I recommend only using a little at first. I add it to my juices as well. Adding honey will also help with the taste, and the lemon. The benefits of this tea are endless between the lemon, ginger, and turmeric. Adding this to your daily routine is going to naturally detox you and boost your metabolism.

One lemon provides about 31 mg of vitamin C, which is 51% of the recommended daily intake. Lemons contain a fiber in them called pectin, a form of soluble fiber that can improve gut health, and slow the digestion of sugars.


Ginger is not my favorite, but it is one of the healthiest spices on the plant. On the bright side, you can barely taste it in this tea, which is why I recommend this exact tea.  Ginger is known to help with nausea and morning sickness. It also helps with menstrual pain, so when it is that time of the month, try this tea to help! Ginger also contains an anti-cancer property, called 6-gingerol. Studies have shown that its components may block cancer cell growth, and development for ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancer.


Curcumin is an active ingredient in turmeric, that is a very strong antioxidant.  It also has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, which is very important when your body is fighting invaders. Without inflammation, pathogens could take over your body, resulting in death. The antioxidants in turmeric are so strong that they can stop toxins from ruining your liver. Studies have also shown that curcumin, can be a cancer treatment.

The Truth About Naked Juice

The Truth…

I  used to love different kinds of juice drinks like Naked Juice, and then I started to learn more about nutrition. I thought well the label says it has all of these different fruits and vegetables in it. How can it possibly be bad for you? A couple of months ago I started to really look and understand the nutrition labels. When I saw that Naked Juice has over 28 grams of sugar in just one of them I was disgusted.

Ever since I learned about that I refuse to buy juices I just make my own smoothies now. I know fruit has sugar in it so I wanted to really do my research about this product and see what it was that made it so unhealthy. The sugar in Naked Juice is mostly from fructose so when you drink just one juice, you are consuming more sugar in that one sitting than you should for the whole day. The worst part is that Naked Juice contains 0 grams of fiber, fiber in fruit is what regulates the digestion. Fiber is also what fills you up and since this juice contain no fiber… well you still are going to be hungry.

Naked v. Mountain Dew

Just like other products Naked Juice has to go through pasteurization and irradiation, these processes have small to really big effects on the nutritional value. This means that by the time this drink gets to your lips it is a processed food product. Not so healthy anymore is it? To be completely honest the only difference between Mountain Dew and the Naked Juice is the juice possibly contains fewer chemicals!!

The sad thing is not even that has been completely proven… the next time you want to grab a Naked Juice, maybe you should just pick up a Mountain Dew. I mean it is all the same after all, just another sugary drink that people are trying to make money from. If you really want a healthy drink just make your own smoothies and juices. Not only is it 100 times more healthy, it will also save you some money.

Detoxing Your Body With Food

Before I got into health I always thought to detox was when you had to drink something to clean out your body. I recently found out that you can just detox your body with foods. What exactly is a detox? The purpose of a detox is to eliminate toxins from the body by turning them into waste, the waste is then eliminated. The goals are to enhance the bodies detoxification pathways, mostly the liver! This is because the liver is the bodies main detoxification organ. The liver is in charge of cleaning toxins and wastes from your blood and separating out the useful nutrients to synthesize hundreds of biochemicals that your body needs for daily functioning.

Detoxing involves a change in your diet and lifestyle, you can even take herbal supplements! Also, you can go into saunas for therapeutic sweating. When you are detoxing you want to try and eliminate meat and processed foods. Everyone knows that water is key to living a healthy life, but sometimes the no taste can get a little boring. Dark chocolate is a healthy snack? No, you did not misread that, it can actually be very beneficial for your health if you eat it in moderation. Of course, you do not want to be eating it all day every day but you should incorporate into your diet for some days. It is loaded with nutrients that are good for your health. Dark chocolate is made from a seed from a cocoa tree that contains the best source of antioxidants on the planet.

Antioxidants clean up free radicals, destructive particles that are implicated in heart disease and other ailments. Studies prove that eating this chocolate two to three times a week can lower your blood pressure. This is because it improves your blood flow and possibly prevents the formation of blood clots. Health experts say that chia seeds can help you lose weight, because the fiber absorbs a large amount of water. Which then expands in the stomach and should lead to increase of fullness and slow down the absorption of food. They are high in potassium, and antioxidants, they also have more calcium than dairy products that can help strengthen your bones. Something that I love about them is that they give you energy without giving you anything harmful to your body.  Eating a bag of chips or cookies will make you crash and feel tired.
Chia seeds are completely raw and unprocessed without unhealthy chemicals that other snacks have. Another great thing is that you do not need to cook or do anything with chia seeds. I like to put about a handful into my smoothies after my workout to get a boost of energy for the rest of the day. You can also make a chia seed pudding with coconut milk, honey, vanilla extract, and sea salt. There many other ways you can incorporate them into your diet. I challenge you to try chia seeds a few times a week in different meals or snacks, and see if you notice a difference!

Starting a healthy lifestyle does not have to hard if you take the right steps. Everyone always wants to wait for a new year, new month, or new week to start living a healthier lifestyle. The truth is you can start today, you can start right now. Your body goes through so much every day, don’t you think it deserves to be taken care of? Having a healthy lifestyle is not about how you look it is how you feel. People think you have to be skinny mini in order to be healthy, no all you have to do is to give your body what it needs. Here are some tips to help you get started on your healthy lifestyle now!

Set Realistic Goals

If you set yourself goals that are not realistic you’re going to end up giving up. Start small and from there challenge yourself every day to do more. If you have never worked out before don’t go to the gym for two hours, and do the same workout as someone who has been going for years. When you achieve your goals it makes you more motivated. I know when I accomplish something I just want to keep going. Start by drinking more water instead of juice or soda. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole foods instead of processed junk. Begin with small goals and move slowly to set bigger ones.

Eat Breakfast Every day 

Breakfast is sooo important I can’t say that enough! How is your body suppose to perform and have energy if you’re not feeding it? I know a lot of people are not a big fan of cooking in the morning, so just make a quick smoothie. Add some greens, fruit, almond milk, and chia seeds. That is going to give you so many nutrients plus give you the energy to go through your day. Breakfast is so important because you have do not eat when your sleeping of course so it breaks that fasting period. Eating a nutritious breakfast promotes weight loss by maintaining blood glucose levels and your metabolism.

Have Support

I believe that it is very important to start a healthy journey for yourself and no one else. You need to want to be healthy to feel and look good for you, not for others. With that being said having support from friends or family can really help. I know when I go to the gym with someone I go so much harder lol, call it my competitiveness but hey it works. If you live with someone ask them if they want to go shopping for new food. Look up healthy recipes and make them together. You can schedule to go to the gym with a friend a couple times a week. This way you are both committed to going and hanging out.

Stay Positive

There is going to be days where you just do not feel like getting out of bed and want to eat junk food all day, which is okay we all get like that sometimes. But it is important to stay positive and remember why you started. If you start thinking this is not going to work most likely it’s not going to work. “Healthy mind, healthy body.” You have to be realistic do not try to lose all this weight in a short period of time. It takes a while to lose healthy weight and keep it off. Starving yourself is not the answer, and will actually make your body hold on to more fat. Remember this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. Be consistent and remember it will take a while to get where you want, and that is okay.

Reward Yourself

When I say reward yourself I am not saying go indulge in bad food or go days without being active. Of course, we will all have our off days but that should not be you rewarding yourself. Let’s say you set your goals to eat no processed foods for a month, do not say well I did it so now I can eat whatever I want. No, go buy yourself new workout clothes or that blender you have been wanting. Maybe you get a new bike, spa day, mani-pedi, or a nice water bottle. Reward yourself with things that are going to help/want you to keep going.
