Detoxifying Foods: 5 Foods to Help You Naturally Detox
There are a lot of different ways to detox your body but the best way is through the food you eat. These 5 detoxifying foods are natural, healthy, and will make you feel better overall. Your body is your temple and it is important to protect it as much as you can. Our body naturally detoxes but the processed foods we eat, pesticides, antibiotics, heavy metals, chemicals, and stress can all slow down the detoxification process.
I personally am not a fan of “starving” yourself and supplements because they are not practical and not a lifestyle. Here is a post for my homemade detox tea. I wanted to share these five foods/drinks since they are very easy to add into your everyday diet. Make sure to DRINK LOTS OF water as well to flush everything out!
5 Detoxifying Foods
Lemons
I am sure you have heard people talking about lemon water, or have had it yourself. Lemons are a powerful way to clear toxins, support the immune system, improve digestion, and protect the liver and kidneys. Lemon juice’s atomic structure is similar to the digestive juices in the stomach, so it tricks the liver into producing bile. Bile is what helps to keep food and everything moving. It also contains pectin, a dietary fiber that supports digestion. We all know I love my fiber! A study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food found that the citric in lemons can help to protect liver function prevent oxidative damage.
Kale

Kale is packed with protein, potassium, calcium, thiamin, riboflavin, and iron. It also contains vitamins A, C, and K. Kale has one of the highest levels of antioxidants of any plant that you can eat, which helps reduce inflammation, lower cholesterol, and detox the liver. It is also filled with fiber, which is key to a healthy digestive tract. Kales phytonutrients can help to neutralize inflammation.
Ginger

Ginger is something that has grown on me over the last few months. At first, I was not a fan because it can be very strong, with not the best taste. There are so many benefits of ginger and packed with many powerful compounds. Ginger contains nine different substances that have been known to stimulate serotonin receptors in the gut which provides benefits to the gastrointestinal system. It stimulates digestion, circulation, and sweating, which is how your body naturally detoxes!
Chia Seeds

I have been using chia seeds for many years, and I can definitely tell a difference when I am consuming them consistently. Adding them to smoothies and baking recipes is a great way to add this fiber source into your diet without really tasting them. Chia seeds can absorb to about 30 times their weight in moisture, which is very beneficial for the colon. When chia seeds are completely digested, they swell and absorb toxins in the body and cleanse the digestive tract.
Green Tea

Green tea is something that I try to have every single day with half a lemon and 2 scoops of fiber. If I am not drinking green tea then it is my pukka tea, which I’ll go into in a different post. Green tea helps to flush out toxins, keep you energized, increase fat burning, and overall health. It is very high in antioxidants and protects your body from free radicals. Out of all of the detoxifying foods, green tea is my favorite because I am a tea lover!
